Online Workshop: Using acoustic analysis to assess and treat voice disorders in clinical and research settings

A series of mini-lectures and an online practical workshop will provide participants with guidelines for using acoustic analysis in their clinical practice to direct and inform voice therapy It has been designed for practicing SLPs and ENTS interested in using the latest acoustic analysis outcome measures in their clinical practice and research projects. Participants are required to:

  • Review a series of self-directed mini-lectures on Acoustic Analysis theory
  • Download Audacity, PRAAT and case study sound files on their own laptop (Instructions will be provided)
  • Attend the online practical workshop

Dates:

  • Fri 9th April 2021: Mini-lectures become available
  • Thur 15th April 2021, 7-8pm: Online technical assistance session (optional)
  • Sat 17th April 2021, 9am-1pm: Acoustic analysis - practical application online workshop

Registration costs: 250 AUD

The series of mini-lectures and online workshop covers 6 areas/activities:

  • Why we use acoustic analysis
  • When we use (and don’t use) acoustic analysis
  • What equipment, programs, measures, vocal tasks to use
  • Clinical examples
  • Practice the process yourself using PRAAT
  • Using acoustic analysis via telehealth Participants will be able to:

    1. Recall different acoustic analysis measures and how to interpret them
    2. Choose the appropriate acoustic analysis measure to use for specific voice tasks in F2F and telehealth contexts
    3. Choose which acoustic analysis package they can use depending on resources, sound recording quality skill, clinical/research focus and access to normative/interpretive data
    4. Conduct an analysis using the most common and clinically relevant measures using PRAAT
    5. Interpret acoustic analysis results in specific case examples
